Canadian defenceman Nic Hague is headed to Music City with a new deal in hand.
The Kitchener, Ont., native was traded from the Vegas Golden Knights to the Nashville Predators and immediately signed a four-year, US$22-million contract extension, the team announced Monday.
Hague, 26, posted five goals and seven assists in 68 games with Vegas last season and added two assists in 11 playoff contests. The six-foot-six, 245-pound blueliner has 83 points (20 goals, 63 assists) and a plus-20 rating over 364 NHL games, all with the Golden Knights.
A second-round pick (34th overall) by Vegas in 2017, Hague won the Stanley Cup with the club in 2023, registering six points in 22 playoff games during that run.
“Nicolas’ profile as a defenceman is one that teams around the NHL covet – big and physical with strong skating ability,” said Predators general manager Barry Trotz. “By signing him for four years, he will play an integral role in shaping our blue line not only now, but in the future.”
Hague is expected to slot in alongside captain Roman Josi on Nashville’s top defensive pairing as the Predators aim to return to playoff contention after missing the post-season for the second time in three years.
The trade, completed June 29, also saw Nashville acquire a conditional third-round pick in the 2027 NHL Draft, while sending forward Colton Sissons and defenceman Jeremy Lauzon to Vegas.
Hague, who captained the OHL’s Mississauga Steelheads during his junior career, has represented Canada internationally at the 2014 World U-17 Hockey Challenge and 2016 U-18 World Championship.
