Team Canada has emerged victorious with Gold in Finland following  a 5-2 win over Germany at the 2023 IIHF World Men’s Ice Hockey Championship. WDSE is proud to congratulate clients Michael Carcone and Cody Glass on their victory with Team Canada.

After trailing throughout the first two periods it was a tie game, 2-2, in the third when Glass intercepted the puck behind the German net and went for a wap-around allowing the puck to find the stick of teammate Sammy Blais for the game-winning goal.

After a breakout season with the Nashville Predators that fell just short of the postseason, Glass was pivotal to team Canada emerging as the team’s first line center. In ten games with Canada the Winnipeg, Manitoba native registered 4 assists while adding two shootout goals in games against Norway and Slovakia.

After finishing the year as the AHL scoring champion with the Arizona Coyotes’ Tucson Roadrunners, Carcone was originally a late addition to the national team but was huge part of Canada’s success. Carcone finished sixth in team scoring tallying six points (3G, 3A) over the ten games played.

WD Sports and Entertainment is thrilled to congratulate clients Mike Carcone and Tyson Foerster on their selection to the 2023 AHL All-Star Game in Laval, Quebec.

Carcone leads the American Hockey League in scoring with 18 goals and 27 assists for 45 points in 28 games. He also leads the AHL with 11 power-play goals and 25 power-play points.

The third-year Roadrunner returned to the lineup from the Arizona Coyotes on Tuesday night and tallied two goals and one assist after logging two goals in six games and a plus-three in the NHL following his recall on December 27. Last week, he was named the AHL’s Player of the Month for December after totaling 10 goals and 10 assists for 20 points in 10 games for the Roadrunners.

The 27-year-old has registered multiple-points in 14 of his 28 games played with Tucson this year and has at least three points in seven games this season. He has multiple-points in seven of his last eleven games played for the Roadrunners.

After 306 career AHL games, Carcone made his NHL debut with the Coyotes on December 28, 2021 against San Jose before returning back to Tucson where he broke the team record with 24 goals. Carcone is the first player in team history to lead the Roadrunners in goals in back-to-back seasons after pacing Tucson with 15 goals during an abbreviated 2020-2021 season.

He finished the 2021-2022 season by appearing in 20 games with the Coyotes where he totaled four goals and two assists. Carcone has 57 goals and 44 assists for 91 points in 111 career games with the Roadrunners.

Foerster, 20, is second on the Phantoms in scoring with nine goals and 12 assists for 21 points. The first-round selection of the Philadelphia Flyers was taken #23 overall in the 2020 NHL Entry Draft. The Alliston, Ontario native has played in 65 career games with the Phantoms over parts of three seasons scoring 21 goals with 20 assists for 40 points. The righty-shooting right wing won a gold medal for Canada at the 2022 World Juniors last August in Edmonton where he scored three goals with three assists in seven games.

A barrage of goals helped the Tucson Roadrunners say goodbye to their losing streak.

The Roadrunners scored scored seven unanswered goals Tuesday night to beat visiting Coachella Valley 7-2 and snap a five-game skid.

The Roadrunners (11-7-4-0) rolled at Tucson Arena to pick up their first- ever victory over the expansion Firebirds.

“Honestly it’s good to have a win like that,” said Tucson head coach Steve Potvin. “In the last four games I think the outcome could have been easily the same for us, really I’m happy the boys played a 60-minute game.”

The Roadrunners had been 0-2-3-0 in their last five, including three straight overtime losses.

Roadrunners forward Michael Carcone scored in the second period and twice in the third to get the hat trick. Two of those were power-play goals.

“They don’t come too often so whenever you get a night or an opportunity to cap off a hat trick it’s a nice feeling,” Carcone said.

Tucson set a Roadrunners record with five power-play goals and had a season high in total goals.

“We got a little bit of a slow start, but I think it just shows the mental toughness,” said Tucson forward Nathan Smith. “Our team’s not gonna quit, we came back, we scored seven unanswered and we had a couple power plays and I think it’s huge to take advantage of those.”

The Roadrunners host the Firebirds (12-5-3-0) again on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. to close out the home stand.

The Roadrunners were 5 for 9 on the power play while CV was 0 for 4.

“Setting a franchise record on the power play is always refreshing, I did it for seven years and I’m not jealous one bit,” Potvin said. “It was nice the PK did their job as well, it’s good to see the special teams get rewarded tonight.”

Tucson outshot Coachella Valley 30-17.

The third period featured 16 penalties and eight fighting penalties, plus two for instigating.

“They’re a great team and obviously they’re a little frustrated tonight and kudos to them for sticking up for themselves and we’re gonna try and do the same thing,” Carcone said. “So we’re not gonna back down from anybody.”

Coachella Valley opened the scoring 1:17 into the game when right wing Eddie Wittchow lit the lamp. Then at 6:48 in the first center Ville Petman made it 2-0.

Smith got Tucson on the board with a power play 14:35 into the first. Center Jean-Sebastien Dea and forward Laurent Dauphin got the assists.

Then a little under two minutes later, forward Hudson Elynuik tied it up for the Roadrunners.

Halfway through the second period, forward Ben McCartney scored a power play goal for Tucson, sandwiched between Carcone’s first goal and his other two scores.

Forward Laurent Dauphin scored Tucson’s seventh goal as 10 Roadrunners had points, led by Carcone’s four.

GLENDALE, ARIZONA – Arizona Coyotes General Manager Bill Armstrong announced today that the Coyotes have recalled forwards Michael Carcone and Blake Speers from the Tucson Roadrunners, the Club’s American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate.

The 25-year-old Carcone has recorded 4-7-11 with 33 penalty minutes (PIM) in 20 games with the Roadrunners this season. He leads the team with 62 shots and is fourth on the team in points. The Ajax, Ont., native has totaled 72-80-152 and 262 PIM in 305 career AHL games. He totaled 15-10-25 with 18 PIM in 35 games during his first season with Tucson in 2020-21. The 5-foot-9, 179-pound Carcone signed a two-year two-way contract with Arizona on July 29, 2021.

The 24-year-old Speers has registered 1-1-2 and 12 PIM in 20 games with the Roadrunners this season. The Sault Ste. Marie, Ont., native has collected 20-19-39 and 88 PIM in 171 career AHL games. He also appeared in three NHL contests with the New Jersey Devils in 2016-17. The 5-foot-11, 189-pound Speers was drafted by the Devils in the third round (67th overall) in the 2015 NHL Draft. Speers was acquired by the Coyotes from New Jersey with Taylor Hall in exchange for Arizona’s 2020 first round draft choice (conditional), Arizona’s 2021 third round draft choice (conditional), forwards Nick Merkley and Nate Schnarr and defenseman Kevin Bahl on December 16, 2019.
