The San Jose Barracuda (1-1-0-0) were outshot 27-to-8 in the final 40 minutes on Saturday, but got 29 stops from Eetu Makiniemi and an overtime winner from Artemi Kniazev to down the Bakersfield Condors (1-0-1-0), 3-2, at Tech CU Arena.
In the first, the Barracuda drove the pace of play and with just three seconds left in the period, Luke Johnson (1) netted a power-play goal to open up the scoring.
In the second Ryan Fanti was replaced by Olivier Rodrigue but the Barracuda mustared just a single shot in the period, yet the game remained at a 1-0 Barracuda lead after 40 minutes.
In the third, Samuel Dove-McFalls (1) finally beat Makiniemi at 7:23 to level the score at 1-1. But on the Barracuda’s eighth power-play of the game, Scott Reedy (1) would give his team back its lead at 2-1. At 12:53, the Condors once again managed to tie the score, as Matt Boudens (2) found the back of the net for the second consecutive game.
In overtime, Johnson found Kniazev rink-wide and the second year defender would beat Rodrigue on the short side at 2:11.
