At just 16 years old, Alex Campeau is already making serious waves in the hockey world,  and he’s just getting started.

Standing at 6-foot-4 and weighing 171 pounds, Alex wasn’t just the tallest player selected in the first round of the 2025 OHL Draft — he was also one of the most complete players on the board. When the London Knights called his name with the 23rd overall pick, it wasn’t just about his size. It was about his elite hockey sense, his unselfish style of play, and a skill set that already mirrors some of the league’s brightest stars.

Alex is a true student of the game. He’s spent countless hours studying and modeling his game after Easton Cowan, one of the most electrifying players in the OHL today. Whether it’s learning how to release a quick shot or understanding the timing of a perfect pass, Alex is relentless in his pursuit of improvement. His commitment to high hockey IQ and vision on the ice makes him a player who can both set up his teammates and rip the puck with authority.

This past season with the Eastern Ontario Wild (HEO U16 ‘AAA’), Alex notched 11 goals and 32 points in just 32 games, and he’s still growing into his frame. According to OHL Central Scouting Director Darrell Woodley, Alex has “a lot of room to grow physically” and already plays a highly unselfish, team-first brand of hockey. Simply put: the ceiling is sky-high.

Alex’s story isn’t just about natural talent; it’s about sacrifice, dedication, and an incredible support system. His mother, Emily Stewart, was instrumental in getting him to this point, driving him 70 minutes each way from Cornwall to Ottawa for practices, all while balancing work and family life. That level of commitment shines through in Alex’s character both on and off the ice.

“I couldn’t have done it without my mom,” Alex said after hearing his name called on draft night. “All the time she took off work and all the sacrifices, most of why I’m here is because of her.”

The road to the OHL wasn’t easy, but it built the foundation for what’s next: dominating at the major junior level and, in time, taking the next step toward a professional career.

Alex will get his first taste of the electric London atmosphere this weekend as he visits Canada Life Place for Game 2 of the Knights’ second-round playoff series against the Erie Otters. Soon enough, London fans will get to know a player who combines size, skill, vision, and leadership in a way that’s rare for someone his age.

WD Sports and Entertainment (WDSE) is thrilled to to share that defenceman Xander Velliaris has made his OHL debut with the Kingston Frontenacs. Velliaris was drafted by the Fronts 45th overall in the 2023 OHL priority selection draft. The 16 year-old defender had 8 points with the OJHL’s Missisauga Chargers to start the 2023-2024 season. In his debut Velliaris helped Kingston to an important 3-2 win over the Peterborough Petes.

In Major Junior hockey the play of your veterans will usually determine a great deal of your success.

The veterans of the London Knights added 60 minutes of proof to that belief.

Co-captains Sean McGurn and George Diaco and 19-year olds Max McCue and Ryan Humphrey combined for six goals and nine points as London took care of business in Game 1 of their Western Conference quarter-final series with a 7-0 victory over the Owen Sound Attack.

Toronto, Ont. – The Ontario Hockey League today announced that overage forward James Hardie of the Mississauga Steelheads is the Cogeco OHL Player of the Week, recording two goals, eight assists and 10 points in four games along with a plus/minus rating of plus-4.

Helping guide the Steelheads to a 3-1 showing last week, Hardie got things started with Mississauga’s lone goal in a 2-1 road loss to the Erie Otters on Monday. The Steelheads bounced back on Thursday with a 6-2 win over the Niagara IceDogs as Hardie put together the first of two consecutive four-assist outings. He registered another four assists on Friday, helping linemate Zander Veccia score his first OHL hat trick as the Steelheads defeated the Central Division-leading North Bay Battalion 5-4. Hardie contributed another goal on Sunday as the Steelheads closed out the weekend with a 5-4 win over the IceDogs on home ice. Currently riding a 10-game point streak, seven of Hardie’s eight assists last week were primary helpers.

A 21-year-old native of Innisfil, Ont., Hardie currently sits eighth in OHL points with 57 (28-29–57) through 41 games this season. His 181 shots on goal are the fourth-highest total in the League. Mississauga’s fist round (8th overall) pick in the 2018 OHL Priority Selection is the club’s all-time leading goal-scorer (118) and point producer (219) in his 230 career regular season contests. Hardie attended rookie camp with the Boston Bruins last September.

Also given consideration for the award this week were Steelheads teammate Zander Veccia who recorded five goals, four assists and nine points in four games. Edmonton Oilers prospect Matvey Petrov of the North Bay Battalion was also a standout, recording five goals and two assists over three outings.

Steelheads overage forward James Hardie’s late marker tied him for the franchise lead in goals (114) and points (207). Hardie needs one goal to take sole possession of both records after matching the marks previously set by Owen Tippett (Phliadelphia Flyers) for goals and Michael McLeod (New Jersey Devils).
